Jonathan & Mayson Foreman are missionaries in Portugal reaching the next generation with the good news of Jesus! Their ministry in Portugal includes camps, sports marathons, Bible clubs, and partnering with local churches and schools.
Olá from Portugal!
We share *this* identity...
Ericeira, Portugal | September 21, 2025—Our time in Portugal has reinforced for me the fact that every single one 1️⃣ of us, all those who count ourselves among the followers of Jesus, are missionaries.

Jonathan & Mayson are in a region of nearly 100,000 🗺️ people in which there is one(!) evangelical non-Catholic church. Even if all the churches here, Catholic included, were packed today, it would only be the smallest fraction of the population in church.
They are reaching youth throughout Portugal to show them that Jesus is not a dusty 🧹 default of their national heritage, but the living Lord who brings fullness of life, purpose, and meaning to each and every day.
They are also a part of a church plant in their community, a new ⛪︎ option to show their neighbors a new way of thinking about church and experiencing the life of Jesus.
But they are not alone in this mission. Over 25 years ago, Suellen and I relocated to what to me, a native Floridian, was a very foreign 🛂 land: the strange and wonderful world called "New England."
We did so first of all because of God's call—the only thing that could convince me to move 1,500 miles straight north—but embedded in that call was the 📉 need: New Hampshire and Vermont would regularly trade off for the least-churched states in the United States.
The many 🚌 people searching for fullness of life, meaning and purpose, but driving by dozens of New England's church steeples convinced that what they were looking for could not be found there motivated us.
At that time, church options in New Hampshire as a whole were...limited. You could have traditional mainline and Catholic churches, or swinging-from-the-chandeliers pentecostal church, and very little in between.
In the 25 years since, Cornerstone has been a drop in the bucket, but a part of a much larger 📈 movement of God. God has drawn many people like Suellen and me to this area, raised up and returned many "natives," and now most anywhere in southern New Hampshire especially, I could recommend various good options for someone looking for a church.
But the work 👷 is not done. Even if all the churches in NH were full this morning, it would still only be a drop in the bucket.
Each of us works with, goes to school with, lives next to, encounter every day someone who needs ✝️ Jesus.
We. Are. Missionaries. I am a missionary. You are a missionary. We are ambassadors for Jesus in a land that is not our home. — Pastor Brian

Church in Portugal
Montijo, Santo Isidoro & Ericeira, Portugal | September 14, 2025—Today we went to church with Jonathan & Mayson where they've been attending and serving the last two years while serving with Palavra da Vida. The service was in Portuguese but with earphones available with English translation. Singing worship songs in Portuguese helps with vocabulary and pronunciation!
The night before we gathered with the newly official Ericeira Community Church. This will be Jonathan & Mayson's home church soon. We met at the pastor's home for a "table night" of food, games, and fellowship. They sang happy birthday to me in Portuguese—yet another first for this trip.
Near the docks in Ericeira, there is a small, beautiful chapel where the fishermen would gather to pray before heading out to sea. It reminded me that our safety and daily bread, which we now so easily could take for granted, are understood as pressing needs for those so connected in their daily life to the sea. On the sea, generations found both provision and danger. Even though our modern lives are often insulated from the hunger and daily threats that prompted the fishermen to prayer, the chapel reminded me that we are still, whether it is top-of-consciousness or not, completely dependent upon the Lord for provision and safety. And he graciously provides both. — Pastor Brian
...Give us this day our daily bread...And deliver us from evil...

We're here!
Ericeira, Portugal | September 10, 2025—We flew out of Boston Monday evening and arrived in Lisbon Tuesday morning. With the time change and jet lag, Tuesday seemed to last for three days, but now, on Wednesday, Suellen and I seem to have successfully made the transition.

It still boggles my mind that in not much more time than it would take to drive to New York City, we crossed the Atlantic Ocean! A strong jet-stream tailwind made our flight time 5 hours, 45 minutes.
First impressions:
- It's beautiful and unique here. Much hillier than I expected, but not the gentle rolling hills of home; much sharper gradients.
- I'm impressed with Jonathan & Mayson's Portuguese language skills.
- Their town, Ericeira, reminds me a bit of surfing and vacation spots I've known in Florida, like Key West and Daytona, but with cliffs (very unlike Florida) and bigger waves (Key West has none, being surrounded by wave-dampening coral reefs).
- J+M have their Word of Life team over for dinner on Tuesday evenings, and they were all a joy to meet and be around.
One thing that struck me around the dinner table last night was that wherever a believer goes in the world, he can find himself at home. Following Jesus makes you a part of a world-wide, multilingual, multinational, multicultural, multi-generational family that speaks the same heart language: Jesus. It's a beautiful thing, and I hope you will experience it, wherever you are today! — Pastor Brian

Summer Camp Season 2025
Próximo Passo com Jesus
Next Step with Jesus! This year's camp theme was the Wild West and the title was Wanted by God. In a world where most wonder if God even thinks of them, students need to hear that they are pursued by Jesus.
In our ministry, the entire year builds up to this month. We exist for the local church. We work with scores of high schoolers and college-aged students from over 20 churches we partner with to serve hundreds of kids from all over Portugal. This is our absolute delight.
The mission? Every camper taking their next step with Jesus.
Cada Campista, Próximo Passo, com Jesus.
Thank you for making it possible through your many prayers and gifts! You are a vital part of this ministry.
